On August 21, 2025, the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Behavioral Health Administration (BHA) released two transmittals for Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) stakeholders. This includes PRP providers and any licensed mental health practitioners who refer participants to PRPs.
These transmittals provide updated guidance for the referring practitioner requirements for Psychiatric Rehabilitation Programs (PRP). Beginning January 1, 2026, PRP providers must submit the National Provider Identifier (NPI) of referring practitioners and ensure active enrollment on monthly claims, adhering to federal and state regulations. All licensed mental health practitioners referring participants to PRPs must maintain active enrollment with Maryland Medicaid.
