Dentistry Accreditation Services

Services

ACHC Standards—the requirements you must meet to achieve ACHC Dentistry Accreditation—are designed to be relevant to the focus of your business model. ACHC will work in partnership with you to build a customized accreditation solution based on your needs. View available services below.

Mobile Dentistry services are delivered by a licensed dentist and/or a licensed dental hygienist, under the supervision of a dentist, using specially equipped vehicles or portable equipment to provide access to dental services in a variety of settings. Mobile Dentistry Accreditation is a third-party validation of dental services provided outside of a traditional brick-and-mortar dental office. The accreditation survey is verification that the provider is adhering to accepted dental practices while maintaining safety protocols and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Launched in May 2021, ACHC’s Mobile Dentistry Accreditation was the first of its kind. We created the program in response to a growing need for dental care in remote or isolated populations, and for those with limited mobility or other challenges. Our standards are built to adapt to dental services provided in the home, assisted living communities, schools, skilled nursing facilities, and even workplace settings.

Here are some common questions from providers like you. See more FAQs, or connect with an expert.

DO NOT DELETE
Are there federal or state mobile dentistry regulations?

There are currently no federal regulations governing the practice of mobile dentistry. However, some states do have mobile dentistry laws and regulations.

Do I need a state license?

It depends. Laws governing mobile dental care vary greatly from state to state. Dentists, hygienists, and/or dental assistants may need specific state licenses/certifications. Your mobile practice could be permitted to adhere to the same regulations as a brick-and-mortar office, or your state might mandate additional licenses and fees. Your organization may also be subject to city/county requirements for vendor’s licenses and business permits. If you serve multiple states, reciprocity is not guaranteed when you cross state lines. Maintain a close relationship with your state dental board and monitor regulation changes closely.

Are there any Medicare/Medicaid/payor rules to follow?

Traditional Medicare (Part A or B) does not cover dental services, but Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C) do. Medicaid and private payors may also cover dental services. Reimbursement requires compliance with the requirements of each payor.
