Medicare PTANs for DMEPOS providers/suppliers are increasingly being deactivated. Why? Federal NPE contractors are finding expired or obsoleted information in PECOS records.
Keep Tabs on Your Records
Avoid compromising your Medicare certification by ensuring your information is current in PECOS. ACHC recommends that you set reminders to review your PECOS records throughout the year to ensure they are current and accurate.
Review paper enrollment applications as well. If updates are needed, ensure you are using the current version of CMS-855S to submit information
What to Look For
As you assess information in your PECOS records, ACHC suggests you pay special attention to the following:
Anything that expires
Check expiration dates on your:
- Accreditation
- Surety bond
- Liability insurance
- Vendor contracts
- Required business or professional licenses, certifications, and registrations, etc.
- Changes of information
Changes of information
Ensure your information in PECOS includes changes to these key items:
- Company or DBA name
- Addresses and phone numbers
- Hours of operation (PECOS information must match what’s posted)
- Third-party billing services

Company additions or deletions

- Location additions or closures
- Addition or removal of service areas
- Providing products/services in new states (Obtain and submit required licenses.)
- Addition or removal of product codes, services, or product lines (Ensure the product codes listed in PECOS match what is on file with your accreditor.)
