- Palliative Care: Preparing for Survey Interviews Can Ease Concerns
November 8, 2022
Your survey for ACHC Palliative Care Accreditation is an independent assessment that evaluates your organization’s compliance with recognized national standards for quality and safety.
Throughout the survey process, your Surveyor will review required documents, assess policies and practices, and interview key personnel, employees, and contracted individuals who provide direct care on behalf of your organization.
Who is likely to be interviewed?
- Governing body or owner
- Administrator
- Alternate Administrator
- Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- Director of Nursing or equivalent
- Nursing staff
- Aide
- Social Workers
- Spiritual Care provider
- Volunteers
- Bereavement Coordinator
- QAPI Coordinator
Some may be uncomfortable about the possibility of being interviewed. Preparing personnel in advance on how to answer potential interview questions can help ease their anxiety. More importantly, it can also solidify their understanding of your organization’s policies and processes.
ACHC Standards are designed to help you easily identify subject areas that may require personnel interviews during your survey. At the end of each standard, a list of evidence requirements for compliance is provided. A listing for “Evidence: Response to Interviews” indicates a potential for personnel interviews related to that standard.
For additional guidance, the ACHC Accreditation Guide to Success workbook for palliative care organizations includes an audit tool that can help you prepare personnel to confidently answer potential interview questions.
